Sri Muthukumaran Institute of Technology was established by Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust in the year 1996. It is initially affiliated to University of Madras and now affiliated to Anna University, Chennai approved by AICTE and five programmes such as ECE, CSE, EEE, MECH and IT are accredited by NBA. The college started with 4 UG programmes and now it has 6 UG and 7 PG programs. Now five UG programmes, viz, CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical Engineering & Information Technology and two PG programmes, viz, Computer Science and Engineering and MCA have obtained permanent affiliation from Anna University.
SMIT was established and founded by Thiru.A.N.Radhakrishnan,Managing Trustee, and Tmt.GomathiRadhakrishnan, Chairperson. Our managing trustee has rich teaching experience. He is a dedicated, devoted and disciplined person with high quality of knowledge in the field of education. The chairperson of SMITis associated with all Educational activities and has won many awards.
The administration of SMIT includes Mr.L.V.Subramanian, Secretary, Advisors Dr.Muthu and Dr.Karunanidhi, Dr. D. Padmasubramanian, Principal, and Administrative officer Mr. V.Veeraragahavan, The governing council also has eminent members from government bodies such as AICTE, Anna University and Industrialists.
The SMIT has a sprawling campus at Chikkarayapuram, Near Mangadu at the out skirts of Chennai. The excellent infrastructure includes separate blocks for each department with well-equipped laboratories, spacious class rooms,a central library with more than 48,173 volumes, 76 national journals and 63 international journals, e-journals and internet facility to provide a wonderful ambiance for the students to learn. SMIT has well learned and experienced faculty members and well trained technicians.

The SMIT campus is spread on a serene sylvan setting on the eastern side of the famous Mangadu Kamatchi Amman Temple. The atmosphere is conducive to academic and research pursuit in an area of 43.6 acres at east of Chikkarayapuram, Kundrathur Road, Mangadu, Chennai - 600 069, and on the outskirts west of Chennai city, on the Kumananchavadi-Kundrathur Tambaram road.
It is about 15 Kilometers from Tambaram Railway station and about 23 Kilometers from Parrys corner. It is easily accessible by frequent city buses and also by a large fleet of our college buses.
